Why The Switch?

You may have noticed the new look to the AC Engage site, and the new, more streamlined features.

Why the switch?

Over time we’ve had several iterations of AC Engage. Throughout its history, the predominant usage for our subscribers has been listening to and watching the content. While there have been some who utilize the many social features we built into the site, for the most part the dominant use has been to experience the coaching and apply it. As a result, we have decided to simplify the AC Engage site in order to make it more consistent with how it is used and also to make it easier to distribute useful content to the community.

We’re hoping that this new, more focused approach to AC Engage will actually make it more helpful and useful for your creative growth. As always, if you have any questions or comments please feel free to let us know.

It’s great to be creating with you!

InHowse ConferenceFor those looking for a summertime creative “shot in the arm”, this is just a quick reminder about the InHowse Conference happening June 6-8 in Denver and sponsored by HOW Magazine. I’ll be delivering the Create-Or-Die talk on Tuesday, June 8th and  there will be a ton of other great and inspiring speakers at the conference (including one of our favorites - riCardo Crespo). In addition, the InHowse, HOW and Creative Freelancer conferences are all happening at the same time in overlapping fashion. It’s like a design invasion.

We’d also love to do a “meet-up” of AC community members while we’re out there, so if you’re planning to attend please let us know. If there’s enough interest we’ll put something on the calendar.

(Also, if you’re planning to register you can get $100 off the registration fee if you register by midnight on April 15th. You can tell them you found about it through AC by using the code THN10.)

Oh… and if you’re from the Denver area, I’d very much appreciate any tips on where to eat and things to do while I’m there!

Pop To The Top

I couldn’t resist. Thanks to everyone who helped Creative Pops snuggle tightly at #3 on iTunes between my two favorite podcasts: Ted Talks and Studio 360. More Pops to come!

Creative Pops Are Back

Just in time for that special occasion (?!?!?) we’re proud to announce, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the re-launching of our popular podcast Creative Pops. These are short, snack-sized thoughts on the creative process and what it means to “make”.

Week O’ Unnecessary Creating

I’m issuing a challenge to our AC community this week. In this week’s Premium podcast I’m discussing the first principle of the AC Manifesto and the dynamics of unnecessary creating. I’m also challenging members of the AC community to spend some time this week in “unnecessary creating” and to share their work with the community-at-large through the AC site. One of the ways we grow, uncover long-lost interests and curiosities and develop new skills is through unnecessary creating. It’s important that we not neglect our personal creating for the sake of our create-on-demand role. In fact, it’s been my experience that the more we neglect our personal creative exploration the more it affects our ability to create when we have to.

So…what are you going to make this week? It can be anything…song, poetry, prose, fibre, home movie, short film, whatever. The key is to do it because you want to, not because you have to.

If you have plans to make something, feel free to leave it in the comments. If you are an AC member, feel free to post your work on your blog for the community to see. (More instructions HERE.)

Happy making, all.

Let’s Call It….Beta

fiddlefaddleWell…after much labor, guessing, sweating, number crunching, and uncountable bags of Fiddle-Faddle, we’re (beta) proud to announce the (beta) new launch of the (beta) Accidental Creative (beta) site. (Have I mentioned it’s beta?) Have at it. Here are few things that are certain:

1. We don’t have the kinks worked out. If this site were a movie, it would be called “There Will Be Bugs.” But we think it’s ready enough to serve as a playground for the AC community.
2. It’s designed so that you will get more out of it the more you use it.
3. There is more functionality to come, but we thought we’d get the bare-bones stuff right first.
4.  Please start groups. Please start groups. Please start groups. Eventually these will serve as local AC “watering holes” to discuss topics related to create-on-demand. Each groups has its own private forum, etc. So…Please Start Groups…about topics of interest, things you want to discuss, etc.
5. The site is built around the new AC Manifesto. More to come on that…this week.

So…have at it. Let us know what you think. Enjoy!
