This Week In Inspiration

So it’s been a pretty good week for stimulus thus far. Here are a few things that have seriously inspired me:

1. The American Masters featuring Philip Glass. Man…oh…man. I challenge you to watch that episode and not be fundamentally changed in how you see your craft. (I passed up a chance to see Philip in concert last week for a speaking engagement. He might be my favorite composer…ever. Really.)

2. I just started a new book called How We Decide and it’s giving me new insight into the psychology of decision making. Thus far, I’d rank it up with On Intelligence with regard to books about the operation of the mind.

3. I’m also really enjoying working my way through Son of Rambow. It’s quaint and is bringing out my playful side. A bit. Maybe.

So that’s my list thus far (and it’s only Monday!) What’s inspiring you?

    Thanks, Todd. I’m always inspired by Ted.com and the people who share their thought-provoking ideas. I have been especially inspired by Jacek Uto, a designer in Poland, who redesigned one of his country’s newspapers into one of the most award-winning rags in the world.

    I did not get to see the show, but I did hear the interview with the director of the documentary on Glass on Bob Edwards’ America and was really inspired. I’ve never been into Glass’ music, but, now, with this glimpse into his mind, I’m intrigued.

    @Nic, Yes…I’m a huge TED fan as well. I really enjoyed the author of “Eat, Love, Pray” in her discussion of creativity as well as Barry Schwartz’s discussion of our inability to make moral decisions. TED talks regularly hit me between the eyes.

    I find it so interesting that TED has developed to fill this desire for exciting ideas and engaging leaders. You can see the rise of Design speak and with the rise of these types of forums and the movement is spreading. Singapore just started TEDX an independent branch of the famous branch. We’ll see if you can franchise the movement…. What an exciting time to be in the design fields.
