This debat is as old as creativity itself. Which is more important, how a thing looks or how it functions?
Even writers cannot escape this quandary. For them, is it best to write for elegant prose or simple readability?
I’ll admit that my natural bias is toward beauty. However, I sense that I would be a more prolific creative if I work on changing that bias to one of usability.
Agree? Disagree? Why?

In my work I’m split 50/50. Personally I prefer to make things that are useful and well as beautiful (I am a craft artist). Nothing wrong with beauty for beauty sake, but I connect more with projects that can be used once made.
I agree with you that it can be applied to writing as well. Too much flowery language without plot or purpose is not enjoyable for me to read. Again it is about balance. There is something beautiful about well-edited elegant prose. That strikes the right balance for me.
